Valve is up to their usual cryptic antics, as they have posted a teaser page on their Steam site which teases an “expansion” of the “Steam Universe”
The page features three countdown timers, and symbols giving some clues on what they might be.
The URL itself obviously gives away that they are talking about the highly anticipated “Steambox” hardware, Linux based consoles with upgradeable components. But what about the other two?
If we turn to Twitter, we find some clues:
Greg Coomer, a long time employee at Valve, posted these three tweets that repeat the symbols on the teaser page. The interesting thing about this is that as far as I can tell, Greg is a software developer, not hardware. He has worked on all of Valve’s titles dating back to the original Half Life, and has several characters named after him. This may lead some to believe that at least one of the announcements will be software based – Half Life 3 perhaps?
We’ll have to wait and see. It is possible that all three announcements are hardware related, or could allude to a new free to play game or something hardly interesting. Or it could be new hardware, a new version of Steam, and Half Life 3… The anticipation is killing me!
