As is often the case with pre-release CPUs, someone wants to be the first to destroy theirs in order to see how the Internal Heat Spreader is applied. This time it was OC Drift who took the plunge:
Sure enough, the IHS is soldered on. No crappy Thermal Interface Material here, and not even the improved TIM from Devil’s Canyon. This also gives us a sneak-peak at what the die looks like. Once again there are 12 cores present, but only 8 will be in use.
We hope to have more information once the CPU is released soon. Below are the unconfirmed specs of all three Haswell-E processors that were revealed last week:
