Intel DC S3500 Explored
The DC S3500 is built just like the rest of Intel’s 7mm SSDs. Let’s open it up and see what’s inside:
The 480 GB DC S3500 contains a total of 528 GB of flash, meaning 48GB is over provisioned. If that seems like an odd number, that’s because packages of several odd capacities are used – there are 14 x 32GB, 1 x 16GB and 1 x 64GB packages all together. This is exactly what the DC S3700 did.
The remaining hardware includes 1GB of DDR cache, and the Intel controller. There are also a pair of capacitors to allow writes to be completed in the case of accidental power loss.
