With UFC 2009 and Plants vs. Zombies, I hardly have time to eat, sleep, or breathe. It’s been a slow news week too, so there’s not much to talk about anyway.
- First of all, UFC 2009 Undisputed is awesome. Get it if you haven’t yet. If you’re wondering how it plays, think of it as being sort of between Soul Calibur and Fight Night.. or something like that. Really, I haven’t played anything like this before (the only previous UFC game I played was the original on Dreamcast, which I got to play against Frank Shamrock at E3 in 2000, which was pretty fun/scary). The interface is slow-loading and a bit annoying, with terrible music and a TON of autosave dialog boxes popping up all the time, but the game is solid. I know that I haven’t even scratched the surface yet with my ground game, which makes me want to play it even more.
- C|Net is reporting that Microsoft is set to unveil a new search engine next week. It’s going to take a lot to even take a small chunk out of Google’s user base. One thing is for sure though; anything would be better than Live.com’s current engine.
- Remember Swine Flu? Yeah, way back in early May 2009, the media worked the world into a frenzy over a weaker version of influenza that was spreading. Well it seems Japan is still in a frenzy, because some of their developers are not allowed to leave the country to show off their games at E3. Which ones exactly, we’re not sure, but we do know that Dead Rising 2 will not be shown because of it.
- Looking for a new OS for your Netbook or old PC? Sure, you could use a stripped-down version of Linux that looks like crap and is boring to use, or you could use Intel’s new version that seeks to add function and usability to a version of Linux that will run quite nicely on their slow Atom CPU’s. It’s called Moblin, and the public beta just came out.
