Although the methodology isn’t always as thorough as the smaller, more focused hardware sites, sites as big as Tom’s Hardware can usually get away with posting performance results from unreleased hardware. This gives us a glimpse of what to expect when hardware is finally released, even if it doesn’t tell the whole story of a product. This time their target was Intel’s upcoming CPU architecture Haswell, which they have posted a quick performance preview here.
The results are what you would expect from an Intel “Tock”. The jump from Ivy to Haswell is about the same as Sandy to Ivy. However there are a lot of architectural changes that will only be revealed in a full review – these are just some quick and dirty benchmarks.
What we will want to know is what the power consumption will be like, and whether we truly will see the return of true BLCK overclocking, as we were the first to speculate in January.
When the time comes, we will have the type of fully detailed review you have come to know us for. So stay tuned for that! Current rumors put the release date at around June this year.
