Dark Rock Pro 2 BQ DR2-76-135
As we showed you on the first page, the Dark Rock Pro 2 is a beauty. They go all out with the blacked-out look; everything from the fans, shrouds, and brushed aluminium top plate are all black. The aluminum fins, and copper heatpipes and base plate are all plated in dark nickel, to nearly complete the look.
I say nearly because the mounting hardware is unfortunately standard unfinished metal. It doesn’t ruin the look, although it would have been nice for them to go the extra mile – especially considering the premium price of this product. It is what makes me appreciate my Casio “Men in Matte Black” series Riseman over the standard black G-Shock Riseman, for instance. At that point, it’s the fine details that really push a design over the edge of being complete.
The Dark Rock Pro 2 comes with seven 6mm copper heatpipes, which are soldered into the copper base plate. As mentioned, everything is nickel plated, which not only gives it a distinctive look, but helps improve durability.
Included in the package are all the hardware you need to install it on any modern socket. For this review, we will be installing it on the LGA 1155 based EVGA Z75 SLI, and testing it on an LGA 2011 system.
