Right after introducing a pair of new FX series models yesterday, AMD went back to work and lowered prices on most of their CPU and APU lineup across the board. Here’s a breakdown of the price drops, using the 1KU prices:
Model | Old Price | New Price | Price Drop |
---|---|---|---|
A6-3600 | $95 | $77 | 18.9% |
A8-3800 | $105 | $91 | 13.3% |
A8-3820 | $115 | $101 | 12.2% |
A6-5400K | $67 | $57 | 14.9% |
A8-5500 | $101 | $91 | 9.9% |
A8-5600K | $101 | $91 | 9.9% |
FX-4300 | $122 | $108 | 11.5% |
FX-6300 | $132 | $112 | 15.2% |
FX-8320 | $169 | $153 | 9.5% |
Phenom II X4 965 | $91 | $81 | 11% |
It’s pretty clear that a lot of these are to help phase out older models to make room for new ones, or to simplify the model lineup. The first three A6 and A8 series are first gen Llano APUs and are probably only worth considering for extreme budget builds. Additionally, the FX 4300 and FX 6300 have already been replaced by the FX 4350 and FX 6350 yesterday. The FX 8320 gives people a nice chance to get in on an “eight core” CPU for just around $150.
My pick of the bunch is the FX-6300. It performed very well when we first looked at Vishera last October, and now is the time to get one if you are putting together a build where a $115 or so CPU would fit in. I would recommend it over the $120 CPUs we looked at last week!
