Okay, so Microsoft didn’t cut the price of the XBOX 360, but yesterday they did something close - starting on August 1, the HD-DVD Player addon will be available for $179, instead of $199.

In addition to that, they are offering 5 free movies, in a promotion similar to the Blu-Ray one (and identical to the one Toshiba has been offering). Buy the player, and you can choose 5 movies from this list, which will be mailed to you who-knows-when:

  • Apollo 13
  • Blazing Saddles
  • Casablanca
  • Chronicles of Riddick
  • Constantine
  • Dukes of Hazzard
  • Four Brothers
  • Tomb Raider
  • Perfect Storm
  • Rundown
  • Seabiscuit
  • Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow
  • U2: Rattle & Hum
  • U-571
  • We Were Soldiers

Umm, I see 2, maybe 3 movies I’d actually want to own in that list (and no, not Dukes of Hazzard). But still, if you have a 360, don’t plan on getting a PS3, and want to get in on HD movies, now may be the time (well next Wednesday anyway). The movie promotion will last for 2 months.

[...] this deal is at Buy.com. They also include a copy of King Kong on HD-DVD, and of course the 5 Free Movies deal is still going [...]
