In the latest Warhammer Online newsletter, Mythic have released a video showing what Realm vs. Realm combat will (somewhat) look like when the game is released (they took out magic spells). As soon as you watch it, you’ll see that it looks very much like a high-end World of Warcraft. That’s only fair, since Warcraft’s storyline is pretty much a ripoff of Warhammer anyway.
We’ve seen other MMORPG’s attempt to mimmick WoW’s addictive gameplay, and fail. However, if Mythic can pull off what may essentially be “everything you like about WoW, and nothing you don’t like” and have it relatively bug-free, I can see a lot of people jumping ship. For instance, as soon as I saw that there was character collision in the video, I headed over to Mythic’s beta site and signed up right away. Also, Realm-vs-Realm combat with real consequences is much more appealing than lame Battleground combat, where people run around like idiots, or sit idle, leeching points from the team.
Check out the video below (550×319), or head over to Mythic for the full-res version (800×464).

I’m surprised no one commented on this yet, but remember that the Warhammer IP is older than even Blizzard itself. Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer IP, approved all artwork for Mythic’s implementation of the game. You cannot say Mythic copied Blizzard when Blizzard really copied many ideas from Games Workshop. Mythic also had a stunning RvR MMORPG (Dark Age of Camelot) years before Blizzard even started developing World of Warcraft. Do not attempt to turn ignorant readers into Blizzard followers.
Blizzard can copy whatever they want because whatever they do is much better than any other software company.
Why do all of the gameplay videos of WAR suck so bad?? I’m looking for a good reason to give WAR a try, but I don’t think I’m going to find it in any of these videos. *sigh*
As for all of the a-hats pointing fingers at who’s copying who…just go the eff away! It’s a friggin’ fantasy game. There are only so many ways you can depict an orc, elf, gnome, human, blah, blah, blah. It’s fantasy for christ’s sake!
There will never be a game that accomdates everyones taste for games. If you enjoy WAR, the go play it. If you don’t, then go play something else. Everyone seems to be willing this game into something that it isn’t. This game will not kill WoW. Even if millions leave WoW, that still leaves millions playing it…probably happily playing it.
RvR….gimme a break.
