Sales Figures
By Carl Nelson on February 15, 2008
January is a rough month for video game sales. After seeing numbers steadily increase for the final 3 months of each year, January’s results look extra low in comparison. This is especially the case when manufacturers nearly sell out their entire inventory of product, which is what happened to both Nintendo and Microsoft. Therefore, [...]

The North American December sales figures are in and, well, it was a big month. Game companies saw a total revenue of $4.82 billion come their way last month, nicely capping off a $17.9 billion year. This marks the biggest year ever for the games industry – a 43% increase in sales over 2006’s [...]

Okay Microsoft, you had your fun on top for a month. Everyone who was waiting for Halo 3 got their 360, and now the Wii takes over its spot on top.

Xbox 360 | 366K
PSP | 286K

It looks like it was all worth it in the end – thanks to a $100 price cut to the 80GB version, and the introduction of a reasonably priced 40GB version, the Playstation 3’s weekly sales have more than doubled in the US.
According to Sony, more than 100,000 units sold during the week ending [...]

As you just saw, Halo 3 sold pretty damn well in September, making more money than every other game on the Top 10 list combined. It also helped propel the 360 to the top of NDP’s September hardware sales charts, although not by as much as you might have expected:
Xbox 360 – 527.8K
Wii – 501K
Nintendo [...]

NDP’s numbers for September are in, and what we all knew would happen happened. But I didn’t expect such a dramatic number:

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass |DS| 224K
Madden NFL 08 |PS2| 205K

Madden NFL 08 |XBOX 360| 173K

Last month, Nintendo ruled the gaming world (in the US at least), with the DS Lite and Wii selling for a combined 761K units in the US. Games for those systems took up four of the top five places in games sales as well.
NPD numbers are in for June, and well, things are good [...]

I’m still waiting for Jack Tretton to mail me my $8400 and I’m rather sure the guys from Penny Arcade haven’t received their $13200 either. Now another Sony exec is back making outrageous claims. David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe declared that the PS3 “will be far and away the [...]

If Sony isn’t dropping Playstation 3 prices by $100 like the rumors currently say, they really should. According to BBC, the Nintendo Wii is outselling the PS3 by a ’six to one’ margin. Actually, it’s more like a 6.5 to 1 margin, 270,974 Wiis compared to 41,628 PS3s in June. In comparison, [...]
