By Carl Nelson on December 18, 2007
According to initial reports, the Playstation 2.10 firmware supported DivX but not XviD. We reported this when the firmware was first announced, because after all, the site that reported it actually had it and actually tested it.
Unfortunately, the person who tested it may not have their network running properly. As it turns out, Xvid plays [...]

When I wrote about the XBOX 360 vs. PS3, one of the PS3’s biggest advantages was its superior multimedia support. The 360 could play WMV files, some MPEG-4 files, and some MPEG-2 files with crappy containers, but that’s about it.

The XBOX MSDN blog has a [...]

FINALLY! As good as the Playstation 3’s multimedia capabilities are, it’s mostly a waste of time if they don’t support the format used by 99.9% of people who record and watch video – DivX
DivX announced today that a future firmware update will add full DivX certification to the Playstation 3. This is a MAJOR [...]

Cue crickets chirping…
Many were hoping that the 2.0 firmware would introduce some highly anticipated features to the Playstation 3 – in-game XMB access would be nice, for one. Also, we are still waiting on that Blu-Ray Profile 1.1 update that is rumored to be coming.
However, it seems that the only reason Sony called this “two [...]

The recent 3.50 firmware update added some cool streaming features to the PSP, but Shacknews tells us of a hidden feature of the firmware; for the first time, developers can run the PSP’s CPU at full speed.
Until now, the PSP would only clock up to 266 MHz for games, presumably to keep battery life [...]
