3DMark 2000 CPU test

3DMark 2000 included a nifty little CPU test as part of its DirectX7-based benchmarking suite.  Once again, the CPU's are neck and neck.  We'll have to look at the other results before coming to a conclusion on video performance... For now, let's have a look at some more CPU tests:

Prime95 Benchmark

At first, the Prime95 results threw me off a bit... The P4 just walks away with this one (remember, lower is better).  Here's one case where SSE2 instructions really put the P4 ahead in the game.  AMD isn't expected to support SSE2 until its next CPU is released.  This is a great way to show exactly what SSE2 can do for processing.  On the flip side, this is just a synthetic benchmark, so unless you are really dying to find a Mersenne prime number, these results are not gonna do you much good :)

Here's the first of our graphics-based benchmarks.  SPECviewPerf is an OpenGL productivity benchmark, and since the Radeon 8500 is by no means a workstation graphics card, we chose to use the three tests most dependant upon the CPU.  These tests, like most of the others we've looked at so far, are once again all over the board.  With no more than a 2 or 3 point difference in scores, I think it's safe to call this one even for now.
