The Test

To show how the NFORCE 590 SLI-powered Foxconn C51 performs, we'll put it up against a 'midrange' AM2 motherboard. Based on the NFORCE 570 Ultra chipset, the Asus M2N-E screams 'midrange'. If you think the Foxconn is basic, it has nothing on the M2N-E. Performance itself is based on chipset of course, so that's what we're going to discover today. When used in a single-card configuration, does the 590 SLI offer much over the 570 Ultra?

The test systems were configured as follows:

Processor: AMD Athlon64 X2 4600+
Memory: 1 GB Corsair XMS2 5400 UL (4-4-4-12) @ DDR 800
Video Card: NVIDIA 6800 GT (ForceWare Release 91.31)
Hard Drive: WD Raptor 36 GB 10K RPM SATA

Windows XP 32 bit with SP2 was used. All the latest chipset, video, and sound drivers were used. SMP was enabled in all tests when possible.

SiSoft Sandra 2007 Memory Bandwidth

With an on-die memory controller, memory bandwidth is almost identical. Interestingly, the C51 comes out a bit slower, despite being based on the more expensive chipset. This is just one test however, and Asus is known for 'cheating' in their memory settings on occasion.
