With places like Costco clearing out Summer stuff for (and I quote) "Christmas Season stuff", we thought it'd be a good time to take a look at what's happened in the portable storage market since the last time we looked. As with everything in the computer industry, we've seen parts get smaller and smaller all the while getting faster and faster.

In the arena of flash drives, prices have dropped drastically and it's not uncommon to see 1 gig memory sticks under the $100 price mark. As a result, 512 has almost become the minimum size that most people will use. As the flash drive market converges, companies have sought to differentiate themselves with various software packages and of all the drives in this roundup, not a single one did not have some sort of software included.

On the hard drive side of things, we also see the case for bigger and better drives. Software again, has also become a big part of package. Now, most internal hard drive products have extended their warranty periods yet again, but unfortunately, this is not the case for the external drives we looked at which unfortunately only carry a one year warranty.

As you can see from the picture, we've assembled quite a collection of products that we'll be testing! Also included in this round-up is a compact flash card. Used in various digital cameras and PDAs, we wented to see how it would stack up against the other drives in this comparison.

Without further ado, let's take a closer look!
