Inspired Design...

Imitation is the more sincere form of flattery and Optorite certainly picked a good company to imitate. Below are the side profiles of the Logitech MX1000 mouse and the Optorite mouse. Twins separated at birth?

Looking at the front profiles.. maybe not. How about a fatter big brother?

Plugging it in

The mouse comes standard with a USB plug (no PS2 adapter) and a driver CD with what I thought was a button configuration program. Much to my chagrin, the only thing that the program could do is add limited functionality to the middle side scroll button. When you press the middle button, a little wheel shows up on your screen and lets you open Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, My Documents, IE, Open My Computer and adjust the volume. You cannot change these functions.

For Word, Excel and Powerpoint, you can configure application specific settings. As you can see though, it's... limited to say the least.

There's also the option to add a custom function for within each program, but it's unfortunately still very limited.
