Iometer - File Server Tests

Iometer, originally developed by Intel and later picked up by the open source community, does a great job of testing drive performance in multi-user server scenarios. There are several multi-user test patterns that can be used; we are using the File Server and Web Server patterns, both defined by Intel.

If you are curious how 3 Gb/s will affect server performance, these are the tests to pay attention to.

In a file server, 3.0 Gb/s helps significantly when a single drive is used, especially when such a high load is performed. Both types of RAID also show a performance increase, but not quite as defined.

Response time is also improved, but not quite to the same extent.
