I'll be honest with you, and say that it was an absolute breath of fresh air reviewing something other than low end motherboards. There are so many interesting things to talk about. DFI certainly provided us with a lot of interesting features to go over.

Dual Video is a great feature to have, even if 'hax' SLI is on its way out. No longer do you need to use a crappy Matrox video card to get quad output.

The layout had some very minor flaws, but DFI did some things VERY right, and were also able to make an aesthetically pleasing board by methods beyond funky colours.

Karajan audio unfortunately wasn't used to its full potential. DFI's next goal should be to provide the gamers they're going after with a useful audio controller. If you're going to add a cool audio feature that has potential, don't ruin it by using an AC'97 audio controller and codec.

I was also impressed by the plethora of CMOS features, including Reloaded, and of course the ability to boot directly into MemTest86 without any boot devices or drives is a cool feature indeed.

Overclocking should also be stellar, with a ton of features and selections, and memory voltage up to 4.0V. Once we get some DDR memory that can be pushed to these limits, we'll look at overclocking performance on all the Athlon64 boards we've reviewed recently.

Performance was also right there, and unlike prior motherboard we've tested, everything works the way it's supposed to.

From what I have seen, there is no reason not to recommend the Lanparty Ultra-D over any other NF4 Ultra board. It has everything you need, everything you don't need, and is virtually missing nothing you won't need.

And the best part; unlike other Lanparty boards, this one doesn't cost an arm and a leg. At under $150, the Ultra-D stands out in every way but price over other NF4 Ultra boards.

  • Unique features such as dual video card support...
  • ...And MemTest86...
  • ...And CMOS Reloaded...
  • Great layout
  • Looks great
  • Competetively priced
  • 4.0V memory = insane overclocking potential
  • Six USB ports on the back

  • Poor sound solution

Final Score: 98%
