CleverPower SPS-500 500W Powersupply

We first took a look at the Clever Power way back in March of last year and to be honest, not much has changed. It still has the built in 4-plug powerbar in the back and it still doesn't look all that great although it has improved somewhat. Instead of the bland grey we saw back in March, it now comes chromed! Well, slightly chromed. It can't compare to the Enermax in terms of looks, that's for sure!

Because we took a look at this power supply back in March, I won't be showing you the internals again (for that, you can reference the old article here), what I will show you is everything that the original article didn't touch on.

Perhaps it is the fact that it's an older design, but this power supply unfortunately doesn't have support for the new ATX standard set out by Intel. You need not fear yet! For the time being, 24 pin ATX boards can still run off power supplies that conform to the old ATX standard. All it'll mean for now is that 4 pins on the motherboard will be left empty. Some boards employ a backup adapter, allowing you to connect one of the four-pin molex plugs into the motherboard if you are concerned about not providing enough juice.

Though this is an older design, Clever Power still managed to include support for SATA drives. The implementation though, was a little less than optimal. I can't even begin to imagine why, but each SATA power connector is on a seperate real with two other 4 pin molex connectors. Maybe it's me, but it would have made more sense if the SATA power connectors were found on the same rail.

In addition to those two rails, we have a third rail that will power up your floppy (if you still have one) and anything else you'd like to add.
