Introduction

We've always been reluctant to review power supplies here at Hardcoreware because truth be told, most power supplies from reputable companies on the market are more than capable of delivering clean power to your computer for all your needs. Having said that though, recent changes in video card technology (think SLI) and Motherboards (think Intel's new standard) have resulted in the need for bigger, better power supplies. One of the most overlooked components of the computer has become one of the most important to ensure stability of your system.

It's not an easy market for the companies. In addition to more power, users are also demanding less noise and lower price points. That's why today, we'll be taking a look at a few different power supplies at different price points. For the most part, cheaper is better right? However, if you buy too cheap a power supply, you'll end up with a house like this.

That's right, you'd have no home and no computer. Instead of sitting in your comfortable home playing Warcraft, you'd be forced to live in a box and have to live without WoW.

OH MY GOD! Not Warcraft!

That brings me to my first point - for power supplies especially, you can't cheap out too much. That begs the question though, given a quality low priced power supply and a higher priced power supply, what exactly do you get? That's the question we'll be answering today.

We'll be looking at 5 powersupplies today from Enermax, CleverPower, Silverstone, Ultra and finally, Skyhawk. All three are rated at 500W or more.

Let's take a closer look...
