LAME MP3 Encoding To test the MP3 capability of these CPU's, we used dBPowerAMP, which makes use of the LAME MP3 encoding tool. We encoded a 45 minute WAV file ripped from the Daft Punk Alive 1997 CD. The encoding was set to the "Insane" preset, which we guess must be the most intensive setting (it certainly takes longer than a standard 256kbps CBR encoding!) The FSB didn't do squat here, as we are simply seeing the 2% performance increase due to the 2% clock speed increase. DivX Video Encoding For video testing, we used DVD2AVI to convert a direct MPEG-2 rip (a 25 minute chapter from "Rashomon"). DivX 5.2.1 was used, and set to "fast" encoding, as 780kbps: Just under 9 minutes to encode a 25 minute clip. Now that is impressive! And this time it looks like the increased FSB is doing some damage, a 4% increase in frames per second. Next Page: (Rendering and Shading)
