One thing to consider

The fan is designed to pull hot air out of the PSU itself, as indicated by this diagram:

Because of this design, there is something you must consider. Most good power supplies have two fans, one to draw the heat from the PSU, but also one to draw heat from the case, working as an exhaust fan.

Looking at the other side of the SPS-500, you can see that there is not a lot of room for airflow here. Make sure your case has at least one exhaust fan if you plan on using this PSU!

I have to say, I was intrigued by the idea of a powerbar being built into the PSU. This should make for less hassle, and less mess around your PC. CleverPower lived up to their name be designing a great way to make room for four power outlets, and at the same time creating a power supply that barely makes any noise at all.

It might not be the prettiest power supply around (they are introducing a black version very soon), but it has everything you could ask for in a power supply - including two SATA ports! Finally!

Another benefit of this PSU is the price - As you can see above, a 500W unit can be had for less than $60 on Although this price might make people weary of the quality of the unit. Only time will tell if CleverPower will be reliable and whether they have good customer support and warranty service.

I will use this power supply in my own personal PC, and will report any problems in the Article Thread, should one arise.

  • Built in power bar with breaker
  • Silent operation
  • Two SATA ports
  • Great price

  • Doesn't look that great
  • Low exhaust capability
  • CleverPower has an unproven reputation
