The Test

We tested the 8IPE1000 Pro2-W against another Intel 865PE board (running without PAT or any other tweaks), and Intel's own 875P board. The 875P should in theory be faster than the other two boards.

As you saw on the previous page, I was unable to get either "MIB" or "CIA" to function very well. The tests I was able to run showed not much performance increase in any case. Keep in mind when looking at these results that they may actually be lower than what you might be able to attain with this board with some care and tweaking put into it.

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.20 GHz (Northwood)
Memory: 1GB Corsair XMS4400 (running at stock PC3200) 3-3-3-8
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 (Catalyst 3.10)
HDD: 80GB Maxtor ATA133 7200 RPM 8MB

All the latest drivers were used, etc...

Memory Tests

First up, of course, are the memory benchmarks, to directly test the memory bandwidth capabilities of this board compared to its competitors. These numbers are all theoretical, and may not reflect end system performance (which is why we test that too!). These are the tests that will show the most difference between motherboards based on the same chipset.

WTH? An 865PE board outrunning an 875P in a memory test? This is insane! And this is without any tweaks enabled! Let's double check the memory performance:

Sure enough, the GA-8IPE1000 Pro2-W has extremely high memory performance! My only guess is that PAT is always enabled with this board, and MIB and CIA simply add more timing tweaks (that are obviously incompatible with the memory we have here). This is a VERY good sign for this low cost board.. Let's continue with a full system test!

PCMark runs various tests to target different subsets of everyday computing performance. Sure enough, the GA-8IPE1000 Pro2-W outperforms both boards we used, including the high end 875P board! Coupled with awesome overclocking performance, we may just have another great board to recommend!

In case you're curious, the PCMark 04 system tests include:

  • File compression
  • File decompression
  • File encryption
  • File decryption
  • Virus scanning
  • Grammar check
  • Audio conversion
  • Image processing
  • Web page rendering
  • WMV video compression
  • DivX video compression
  • Physics calculation and 3D

Most of the things we use our systems for every day.

Now we need to find out if this awesome performance continues in gaming!
