The Function

A very simple, if small backlit LCD display gives you current temp and fan speed of the given function. Turning the knob will change the current displayed fan speed, although I would have liked to see a 'volume' type indicator, showing you where you are on the scale of the fan's availabel speed.

The Cooldrive 4 features solid-state memory, so your settings will not be lost each time you shut down the PC.

The Bundle

Packed inside the Cooldrive 4, you'll find all the cables you need to hook everything up:

The fan cables are all clearly marked. You'll need to make sure the fans you are connecting are the 3 pin variety! Remember, although you get to control four fans with the Cooldrive 4, one of them is already attached inside. However, you can override it and control a fourth fan if you like, but you'll need your own 3 pin extension cable. Luckily, four full-sized thermistors ARE included:

The thermistors are the standard 2 pin flat variety everyone uses. Although they don't have the thin header cables like Thermaltake's, those are only really useful for AthlonXP's, and enthusiasts won't be using those much longer! Unlike the fan cables, the thermistors are not labeled, so you'll need to concentrate while installing them.

The power adapter on the device is a standard 4 pin floppy type molex connector. Included is a floppy-to-full size molex adapter to supply power to the Cooldrive 4.

And here is the connection panel on the inside of the Cooldrive 4. You can't see it in this pic, but nothing is labeled inside. The manual does describe each 'channel' but without illustration. Beside the fan, you can see the alarm; it will beep when any fan or thermistor is unplugged, or when a fan reaches below 500RPM. To disable it, somply press the control knob in.
