3dMark 03

We like to start off with theoretical numbers from 3dMark 03. Of course this will NOT be the only benchmark we use, and I truly believe that this is a good benchmark to show relevant performance results when used correctly. Both ATI and NVIDIA are a part of the 3dMark beta program, so neither one can complain about it being used in a review.

I will note, however, that the 53.03 drivers we are using for the 5700 Ultra are not listed under Futuremark's "Reviewed and Approved Drivers" list. These drivers are brand new from NVIDIA, so they probably have yet to be tested. I ran the tests using the approved 52.16 drivers, and the results were nearly the same.

Anyway, we'll start off with the 'game tests'

The 5700 Ultra beats the 9600XT handily in 2 of the tests, but falls behind just a little in the more strenuous game tests. Remember when Nvidia made a big fuss out of using a less complicated game in 3dMark 03? ;)

Looking at the specs of these cards, we knew what the results of this test would be. It's good to see it coming through so accurately!

And again, we see that the 9600XT is very strong in the Pixel Shader 2.0 test, and the 5700 Ultra excels in vertex shaders.

And for those that care, here are the final 3dMark 03 scores:
