Conclusion, and still champion!

Thanks for coming back to read part 2 of our Cable/xDSL Router Shootout! Look for more router reviews in the future! If you just got here, I suggest you go read part 1 as well, where we look at all the other routers...

Which one should you buy? This is the hard part... There are a lot of factors.  Is price your number one concern? Do you need a built-in hub? Do you need a ton of features? Do you want the one that is easiest to use?

Well the router that fits into most of those categories, in our opinion, is the ZyXEL Prestige 310.  With a sale price of $159, it's hard to beat.  You will have a super high quality router that is very easy to set up and maintain with the included "Prestige Network Commander" software.  You will also get plenty of high quality Cat-5 Ethernet cable (including a crossover cable) and a well-written (and large) manual.

Second place? There has to be a second place, and that goes to Linksys, with its BEFSR41 (replacing the old second place winner, its smaller brother, the 1 port BEFSR11).  It goes for just over $150 if you search in the right places (like the IBuyer search engine).  That's $10 or so less than the Prestige 310, but you do get a very capable full duplex 10/100 switching hub.  If you want advanced features though, you may want to look past the BEFSR41.
