Sony didn’t even wait until E3 to confirm that last week’s price drop rumor was true; they have confirmed that the price is indeed dropping $100 after E3.

Furthermore, they are adding an 80GB model, which will be available this August. Currently only available in Korea, the new model will become the new high end model, taking the old $599 price point. Not too many people would be keen to spend $100 on 20GB of extra hard drive space (especially when you could easily buy a 160GB 2.5″ hard drive for that price, and install it yourself), so Sony will be including a full copy of MotorStorm.

This E3 could be a make-or-break event for Sony, and so far they are taking the right steps. They expect this price cut will double their sales (although that isn’t saying much really). No word on whether international prices will be cut yet. Here’s hoping that the other big Sony rumor - the slim PSP - is announced as well!
