Old PSP model being discontinued as well

From the “well DUH” file comes news that the new slim(mer) thin(ner) model of the PSP will not be sitting along side the old bulky version when it hits stores this September. I figured as much; game-bundles of the new model were announced at E3 with an MSRP of $199, so it only makes sense than a Core version would be the same price as the original model. And who is going to buy a chunky old PSP with crappy battery life for the same price when they can get a… slightly better one?

This news comes from a Sony PR rep, so if you think they’re shooting themselves in the foot by basically telling everyone NOT to buy a PSP this summer, well, it had to have been approved by someone up top. Unlike the DS Lite however, this is probably not going to make a lot of current PSP owners want to upgrade. However, be ready for a deluge of PSP’s to hit eBay in the coming months - most of them are sure to be of “rarely used” quality, since there are no games to play.
