Despite financial issues and rumors, OCZ is continuing business as usual, introducing new SSDs that you won’t see anywhere else.
The latest addition to the OCZ SSD lineup is the Vector Series, featuring the second proprietary controller to be issued by Indilinx since being acquired by OCZ.
Unlike the last Indilinx controller used in the Vertex 4, which was Marvell based hardware with OCZ/Indilinx firmware, the Barefoot 3 controller is apparently designed by OCZ from the silicon up.
It also uses high quality MLC flash, and thus carries a 5 year warranty. TBW is specified at 20GB a day for 5 years, so around 35TB. The press release doesn’t specify, but we assume this is for the 256 GB version.
As for performance, the Vector should deliver 550/520 MB/s read/write sequentially, with random read up to 100,000 IOPS. This is all in a fresh state of course; you’ll have to wait until our review to get more meaningful numbers.
It will be really interesting to see how the Vector performs; we really like the Vertex 4, and it is currently one of our top recommendations. We recommend it over the Samsung 830 and Crucial m4 due to its good steady state performance. At the very least, it’s great to see that OCZ is still bringing new products to the table, giving us more options to consider.

The Vector SSD Series is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities, and delivers read bandwidth of up to 550 MB/s, write bandwidth of up to 530 MB/s, random read performance of up to 100,000 IOPS.
