As you know, we love SSD cache here at HCW. Our tests have shown that using an SSD cache can give you practically all the performance benefit of using an SSD, without having to worry about space. Because of this, you can buy a small 64GB SSD and install it as an SSD cache for an easy, cheap, noticeable performance gain.

Adding an SSD cache to your hard drive is practically just as effective as using a dedicated SSD. Check out our review of SSD cache performance!
Users who don’t use Intel chipsets supporting Smart Response Technology will have to look to other software for caching however. The most popular is NVELO’s Dataplex, which is used on drives like the OCZ Synapse and Crucial Adrenaline among others.
In our experience with both those drives, Dataplex is just as effective as Intel SRT. However there was always one disadvantage, and that was that it would only cache the system drive where Windows is installed. If you already have an SSD as your Windows drive and want to cache your secondary drive, or want to cache more than one drive, you wouldn’t be able to with Dataplex.
Until now! They have just released version 1.2, which adds support for secondary drive caching. You can grab that version here, from the all new NVELO website.
