Almost 3 weeks ago, Intel released a driver for their G965 integrated graphics that, well, made it something other than a worthless piece of crap in gaming. Unfortunately though, it was only for the desktop part.

Today though, Intel has a driver for the Mobile 965 Express chipset that will do the same for the equivalent notebook part. So if you recently gave up gaming performance and passed over a notebook with nvidia or ATI graphics in favour of better battery life, you now have the best of both worlds.

I quickly installed these drivers, and ran World of Warcraft, a game I have been attempting to play on and off during my vacation in the past month. Before the new drivers, I would get about 8-15 frames per second, obviously rendering the game completely unplayable. With the new drivers, frame rate shot up to about 30-40 fps. Nothing spectacular, but totally playable now. Most games that were unplayable before should feel the same effect.

You can grab the drivers from Intel’s download center; here’s the link for the Vista 32 bit version.
