So far we have reviewed the Kingston V100 and V200 SSDs from Kingston, the latter of which actually performed quite well for the price. We then reviewed the high end HyperX 3K 240GB, which received our “Recommended Buy – Solid Performance” award.
Today Kingston announced that they are shipping a new budget SSD, which will sit in between those two – the Kingston V300.
We have to forgive Kingston for comparing it heavily to a “7200 RPM HDD” because that’s the demogrpahic they’re going for with this drive. It might still be good for us though, we’ll find out when we get one in.
Interestingly, it’s going to be powered by a SandForce SF-2281 controller, the same one used in some of our most highly recommended SSDs such as Kingston’s own HyperX 3K. That only tells half the story though – what really matters is what kind of flash is being used. And like I said, we’ll find out when we get one in!
Specs are set at 85K read 43K write, random 4K IOPS, and 128 TB total bytes written to the drive. This is for the 240GB version.
Read after the break for the full press release, and stay tuned for our full evaluation. More info and specs on other sizes can be found here.
