Just a few days after the official but not confirmed 25th birthday of the NES is the official and confirmed 10th birthday of the North American Playstation 2.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to say about the launch of the PS2. It was a groundbreaking system for sure, especially with the inclusion of a DVD player. But I was a Dreamcast player at the time – and even then I wasn’t as much into console games as I was in the years before (and after). I did end up buying a Playstation 2, for Gran Turismo of course. To be honest, I’m not sure what came of that system. I know I sold my Dreamcast eventually (only to buy one a few years ago), but I think my PS2 is actually sitting in an attic somewhere…
I could talk at length about some PS1 memories, but the PS2 was basically my Gran Turismo machine. I was having too much fun testing hardware (hardCOREware.net site started a few months before the PS2 came out, and became my full time job that year) and playing PC games to spend much time on the PS2.
How about you guys? Do you have any fond (or horrible) memories of the PS2?

I recently purchased a second PS2 so that in the case that my first one finally gives up the ghost (got it back in 2003 IIRC) I can continue to play my ~150 PS2 games. It’s a great machine, with a great collection of games. I wish the PS3 had backwards compatibility. If it did, I would have purchased one a long time ago.
