When we reviewed the GT3 “Sport Compact PC” we were impressed with its ability to fit a full-ATX motherboard, full-length PCI-E video card (with double-width cooler), an extra PCI or PCI-E card, 2 hard drives, and standard size CPU cooler in a tiny (4″ wide) case. We even gave it our coveted Innovation Award, only the third time we have given that award to someone. However, like most innovative products, the price was pretty much out of touch with reality. $250 for a barebones case - even an impressive one like this - is borderline absurd.

However, GTR Tech just dropped the price by $100, and it is now available directly from them for just $150. Now we’re talking! Note that you still need to buy your own slim optical drive (pretty rare in stores - I could not locate one in Hong Kong but eventually found one at a shop in Akihabara, Japan). I still use this case as my HTPC, and it is holding up very well. If you are looking for a portable full system, or something to build an HTPC around, now is the time to consider the GT3.

Update: If you use the coupon code GTROCCNY2007 you will get an extra $50 off, making the GT3 $99 in total. Plus you get free UPS ground shipping. Not bad!
