I'm about to embark on installing a laminate floating wood floor over the current parquet floor in my co-op. Never did anything like this, so thought I'd post and see if anyone had any gotcha's or watch-outs for me.
1 big question I can't seem to find an answer to is are there advantages to glue vs. no glue locking types?? Anyway, if you can offer brands to stay away from, or tips, I'm all ears. Also, My floor is pretty darn flat, but how flat is neccessary for a PERFECT looking install? I want to do it, and I'm willing to put the time in to level what I have too. Thanks in advance if anyone knows anything about this. update - forgot picture of current floor that I will install over.

glue means water tight. also means you have to be more careful installing it, and if one gets damaged, its much harder to replace. The click types can be glued if you need to protect it against water, but they are easier to install and if not glued, not to hard to replace a single damaged sheet.
you generally place a thin cushion layer under it to absorb shock, so as long as that floor is relatively flat, it should be fine. my dad and i did our livingroom/hallway with laminate, didn't glue, and couldn't be happier.

I believe that the very act of believing in something causes us to distance ourselves from that thing. Now since we all know that in order to fully understand a thing one must be that thing, it seems obvious that the state of believing in something inevitably causes us to not truly understand it. This leads to all sorts of difficulties. "I believe in love" has a better than even chance of leading to divorce, while "I believe in God" seems to end in variations on the Spanish Inquisition -CLP |
