Default Won't boot with HD connected to RAID controller

I have an ECS K7VTA3 ver 3 w/a Promise raid controller. I have a modded HD (just a window) that I want to hook up so I figured I use the 3rd IDE controller. According to the manual you just hook the drive up as you would if you were using the primary or secondary controllers. Nothing in the BIOS mentions RAID. The machine posts, but then hangs up when the screen says "scanning IDE drives". I tried the drive on the secondary controller and I boot with no problem, so I don't think the problem is the modded drive. Nothing on the ECS website although I'm waiting for a response from support. Any ideas?

Thanks

Check in your BIOS for boot options and see which order it searches the devices. Also if you have it hooked up to the primary IDE controller move it to the secondary maybe and see if that helps.

If you only have one drive on the channel make sure you turn off all the stuff like Stripping, mirroring and what not

the bios should have an option somewhere to switch between raid and ATA on the promise chip.

Just don't put it on the RAID controller.

There should be a sequence you can press to go into the Promise controller's BIOS.

I think just like SCSI the promise controller has its own set of BIOS and then there is the regular BIOS

I have the promise RAID in my bios, so I'm clueless... Have you looked over the book carefully or downloaded anything that could tell you? Also, make sure you have the latest bios.

don't you have to like install drivers before even onboard raid controllers will be recognized?
don't have much experience with raid tho

QLZ you got it

Ensure the raid drivers are installed in windows. once they are. then you can boot off the raid controller. until then you will get errors from the OS.
