when all else fails, start killing processes one by one, eash time starting windows update. Eventually one of them should be is.
Especially look for a "svchost" or other similarly common exe that isn't in the correct directory. |

They are shipping the computer back to me in Ohio - that's why there has been no updates.

I really don't know how to answer that? I have never been there, they are a distributor for our products in Canada. I work at the Main Office/Manufacturing Plant in Ohio.
I see you are from Vancouver. The company name is Tru-Fit Fasteners and Supply.

Hello everyone;
Sorry about the slience about my problem but I had to wait for the computer to be shipped to me in Ohio. I re-ran all the scans, using Windows Malicious Removal Tool, ComboFix, SpyDoctor, SpyBot, etc. and it found corrupted files that it didn't find earlier (when I was running it remotely). After spending a half a day on it, I determined that the machine was clean and Automatic Updates is now working properly. Just as I was about to box it up and ship it back, I decided to go to Microsoft.com and download Defender and make sure updates were current. I cannot access Microsoft.com. I know this was a "sign" that you had the Conficker Virus, which I may have had. How do I fix this? It is not blocked anywhere that I can see in Internet Options, Firewall, etc. When trying to access Microsoft.com, I get the authentic Windows "Send, Don't Send" Error Report Window. When I hit either, it closes Internet Explorer. I am assuming this is a Registry Setting, but I don't know where to look. Can anyone help?

just guessing here, but your Winsock sounds broken. there's many repair apps out there, and/or you can even repair it yourself.
here, read this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=299357 |

I fixed the problem though I am not sure how. I ran all my virus scans and utility programs again. I logged into a different profile in Windows and it didn't have this problem so I created a new user profile for this computer and deleted the one I was having problems with and now it is fine.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Seriously. Glad you got it worked out (maybe) you'll never really know with windows unless it's a fresh install.

Agreed with the re-install; especially if you physically had the machine. I'm glad it works under a new profile but there's no guarentee that the problem won't return unless you know what caused it in the first place.
