Thanks for this great forum. This is my first post to the forum and I wonder what you people think.
Why people use Twitter? What motivates people to use Twitter? Any ideas? It’s about news or comments? |

It's a big "send to all" button that allows people to voyeuristically stalk other peoples lives while at the same time being able to showcase their own lives like it's something that matters to everyone.
That aside, some people have found valid reasons to use it. Updating when something actually interesting is posted, free simple means of mass communication for news, etc.

Personally I use it to keep up with friends overseas as well as something to do at work.

People use it when they're bored, or drunk.

no doubt that twitter has its uses as a peoples (as in the peoples republic of) communication device to broadcast on the spot news and events by civilians (see #iranelection or #spectrial for the best example of this, but eztv.it.'s twitter page has been useful since their site went down). the rest of the time its just an outlet for bored narcissistic people most of the time, or for people/companies trying to build a following for profit.
stage 1: get a twitter account stage 2: ???? stage 3: Profit!

IMO, twitter is great for people that run a website or business, or a company, or anything that large groups of faceless people are interested in and want to discuss. its a great way to tell anyone interested updates, news, information, or just say hi in a quick, simple manner.
I don't really get the point of it for a single person. why does your message to a friend have to be sent to the whole world. almost every other person on the face of the planet really doesn't care about what you ate for breakfast, and the five people that do read it could have found it on a private bulletin board, email, or txt/msn/gtalk/skype w/e non public form of communication. of course thats just my opinion.

I believe that the very act of believing in something causes us to distance ourselves from that thing. Now since we all know that in order to fully understand a thing one must be that thing, it seems obvious that the state of believing in something inevitably causes us to not truly understand it. This leads to all sorts of difficulties. "I believe in love" has a better than even chance of leading to divorce, while "I believe in God" seems to end in variations on the Spanish Inquisition -CLP |

Meh, never got into Twitter or the like... It's a waste of my time to be honest.
