Okay I have an AMD 900 Tbird.
I wanna know what is a safe temp for my cpu to be in. I'm using PC Alert that came with my mobo. currently at 900 Mhz, the highest I've seen the temp gauge go is 38 Celsius. I'm sure this is pretty safe. but I want to know how high the temp my cpu can go and still be "safe." I'm also planning to OC it in a few weeks too. thanks for your help. BTW, I've read around and it says to load my CPU to 100%. Is this the same as CPU Usage at 100%. (Cuz I can have my CPU usage to 100% by loading several aps, but for some reason, I think its not the correct way.) Again, any help or answers are welcomed. -Mr Soze |

When o/c'ing your TBird chip anything under 50C is quite safe. Remember that AMD chips have a much higher temp tolerance than their Intel counterparts. I know several folks who run their o/c'ed AMD chips upwards of 57C without any problems, but I like to keep mine a bit cooler. With a decent HSF you should be able to keep your chip from topping the high 40s.
A good way to load up your CPU to 100% for a good ling haul is to run Prime95s Torture Test CUNCURRENTLY with a demo app or two, such as the as the QuakeII (not III, it will crash after about 2 hours no matter what...there is a bug) demoloop. All you need to run the continuous demoloop is a few small patch files for QII. Prime95 can be found all over that place. There are a couple of other apps you could use like CPU HEAT, Stability Test, and Heavy Load, but I prefer the test above to get some real world temps. Hope that helps. |

I've searched "all over" just now and I can't find a working link of Prime95 anywhere. Got one for me? This cpu seems good under CPU Stability for 13 hours straight, but wanna try them both at the same time. With RC5 to take up the idle times.

thanks for info.
Yesterday I finally "penciled" my Athlon. I assumed I did it correctly cuz I am able to change my multiplier. My only problem is that I cannot get beyond 950 mhz. (9.5 x 100) I can do this at the default voltage. I'm trying to go to at least a Ghz. But Any voltage I go to, (1.85 is the max I can go) I cannot get above or to a ghz. Should I assume that this is the max that my chip can do or is there something else I can do. BTW, I can manipulate the FSB but for some reason my modem does not work correctly, even at 9.5 x 101. Once again any help or answers is appreciated. |
