Default Unlocking Higher Multiplers for Barton Mobiles on older Chipset Boards

I had to deal with this today so I thought I'd post the solution for those of you who might run into the same problem.

I had an old Asus A7V400MX KT400 chipset motherboard and it wouldn't allow for any mults above 12.5x and does not allow for any multiplier manipulation (either through a jumber or in the BIOS) so the board (and many other older chipset boards) will only pick up Mobiles at sub 1Ghz Levels since the higher mults are shared with lower ones meaning that a Mobile 2500+ gets auto detected at 5 x 133.

Basically in order to unlock the higher multipliers you have to short out the connection between the two pins shown in the attached diagram (View is top down looking at the empty Socket)

All I did was take a single copper strand out of a piece of speaker wire and form it into a U shape before dropping it into place in the circled slots. Worked like a charm. Have it running at 14 x 166 now which is a pretty darn good upgrade from a 1.4Ghz on a KT400 mobo

(NOTE: This will not work to unlock higher mults on already locked AMD chips...I tried...only work no already unlocked procs.

Good job. I had to do the same thing (wire mod) on my Dual Xeon sockets to get more voltage. I dunno know about you but my old eyes had a hell of a time with it even with a magnifying glass. But then I had to do six wires to get mine done.

Three trys? I meant I had to do 6 wires. 3 in each socket! What a PITA
Over a dozen trys

Ha Ha, yeah I meant three tries, only one slot. The wire I used was crazy small and I had very little light. Used a pair of tweezers to put it in. First one bounced off somewhere, second one was too long, third time I got it right, lol.

I used a pair of thin nosed forceps that I have. (Old roach clip of yesteryear was its previous function)

You can do it but it won't make any difference. There are different pin mods for changing the multipliers though on locked chips though.

yup, thats just for unlocking higher ones, though i think the green model athlon xp's have a higher reachable multi, i read a review on a mobile 2500, he said he could get a higher multi on either the brown or green... cant remember
