Here's my "skeleton" (test bench)

The Thermalright 120 is very handy, because I can just plunk it down on a CPU without having to install it at all. It's heavy enough that it just sits tight enough for normal use. For overclocking though, I'd do a full install.

I'm using Gigabyte's orange SATA cables on 3 systems that are between 3-2 years old, one with RAID-0 and no issues. Maybe you just got a defective cable LL.

As a side note Gigabyte's ultra durable boards are really reliable. I haven't had any issues with them and neither has anyone I've built a system for with one.

Agrred, never had a problem with gigabytes board or cables. Sounds more like a personal bad experience then actual useful advice; but as always, the advice is personified.

I have had those orange cables go flaky on me on more than one occasion. In fact, I just had a RAID1 go down last week because of one of these cables. Swapped the cable out, rebuilt the array, and it's fine now. If you feel wiggle it around a bit, you can even feel that it doesn't quite fit perfectly. There is always some give.

It could be due to the fact that I am using them on a non-Gigabyte board. But that would be silly, making a slightly non-compliant SATA port.

I do agree that Gigabyte boards are extremely reliable.

Are these newer cables your using LL?? Mine actually click into place (The first time i've seen that on SATA, and its frickin brilliant btw) and hold tighter than my OEM cables.

Actually the fact they click and secure into place was the only reason I went "Meh I guess ill use these"

Yeah they click into place, that's why I thought they would be better than the standard ones! Unfortunately, once they click in, they wiggle around a bit. SATA specs don't call for clips anyway, and standard ones without clips fit more snuggly and securely. That's the type you'll find in server configs too, so if they're good enough for that, they're good enough for me

I just thought it would be helpful to share my experience. If it was 1 in a million (or 3 in a million, in my case) then I guess that explains everything

Another orange cable died on me just now. Luckily it was just going to the DVD, so no data loss (just a crash). Replaced it with an old school red cable, and I'm back up and running
