Default Kill switch ideas?

yeah, still saving up funds for the carputer (only 300$ to go for the screen!)
but I've had it in my car for a while now, all the wires are ran and I hook up my 172X and let it set in the passenger seat ocaisonally, I've got it running 1.1v 1400 mhz, and was thinking of a way to get lower power consumption, I know I can lower the clock frequency, but I started thinking how much juice does a dvd rom drive suck up?

I could wire up a kill switch for the molex to the dvd rom since it would only be used for diagnostics and/or installing new stuff

what got me thinkg about it was I had it running 1.65v 11X166 for a while and the converter box would start beeping whenever I wasnt driving, once it got to 1.4 it shut up awful quick, but now its down to 1.1 I havent heard it beep at all

looking good so far, been a fun project, hang on I'll take some pics of it in the car as it is now

anyways, you all think a kill switch would be worth the effort?

shuttle in the trunk, converter under passenger seat, connections routed up front, and of course: hippy floor rugs I got for a buck

you know, this is temporary, I'll probably have it bolted down soon enough
not only that, but with the trunk open, in the rain, the water sheds down the rear window- and splits left/right and goes along that rubber barrier- and then comes down and drains in the crack between my tail lights and the trunk

that seems like it should be enough...considering thats constant power...a dvd rom only takes up what...20 watts ?

Dvd drives take about 5watts (or less) and less if not reading a disk so even lowering the cpu clock a bit should yeild better results
