Is SATA worth the hassle?? Here’s what I have—I currently have 2 ATA133 HD’s 120G&80G. I also have the opportunity to exchange my ATA133 120G for a SATA 150 120G for no charge. This would mean I would have to reload my OS and all my programs—I also have a ATA/SATA converter so I would begin running my IDE 80G as SATA also. This would give me one true SATA and then an ATA converted to SATA instead of running both IDE. My question is –is the boost in performance worth it all?? I already loaded my OS on the new SATA so all I have to do is load my programs and then hook my old 80G up via SATA. I know that the 80G converted to SATA will not run at true SATA speed but it will give me the benefit of running both drives the same way and also a smaller wire. What are your opinions on this—convert to SATA or stay with the IDE?? Any thoughts

Running an IDE drive as SATA will give you zero benefits, perhaps even some speed loss (though I doubt it).

If you're buying a new HDD and have a mobo with SATA capability, then definitely go with SATA.
If not, it's not really worth going out of your way, and spending extra money for a SATA controller.

What you "may" gain will be negligible. You won't even notice the difference.
