Default same probs.. they cannot be solved... :(

ok... i USED to have a shuttle ak31v3.1 mobo w/ 768MB pc2100 ram, 80GB western Digi, burner, blah blah blah...
Now i Upgraded to try to solve my computer restart problem in XP.. i installed 98 and it works FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY!???!?!?!? my idea is a confilcting driver..
so anyway, here's my specs now..
SOYO Ultra Plat KT600 w/ a 2100+ xp
768MB RAM pc2100 but reduced to 512MB cuz i think a chip might be bad or xp didn't like the idea of having that extra 256MB..
80GB western Digi
52x sony burner
TV card taken out tho
56 Modem but i am going to take it out 4got the brand-doesnt matter now
Radeon 7500 128MB ddr vid card - NOT ALL IN WONDER!! :'(
anyway.. here's the prob.. i have always had probs w/ my comp restarting... "it's the mobo" someone says, so i upgraded.. "the ram!!" someone else says, i took out a chip and ran memtest for 2 dayz straight..
ok, so anyway, xp will crash at the login screen repeatedly.. not always from a cold boot for some reason (WHY!???!)
certain installers rarely will crash my comp (my mobo driver/app installer) and then they will work after restarting cold boot. i deleted my partition (back up files, thank god) and COMPLETELY reformatted my HD 3x in a row.. using the clean xp install.. the HD is fine after many sector scanz and quick scans.
so anyway, i get xp on there, and it's fine for awhile. seemed to be flawless (this is 3x by the way i have reinstalled it from an empty drive). i download ANY updates for xp, or even install my sound drivers (they are correct and updated as well), i am back to square one with the reboots before login or at random points on desktop.
not long ago, i had all my data on it (when i thought it was 'ok'). but when i tried hibernation, it crashed on bootup, and restarted w/ a chkdsk. i figured 'this isn't a prob' UNTIL my HD was reported HUNDREDS (like 50-300) invalid links or cross-linked files on the hd. I was like WTF?!?!??!?!? (hadn't backed data up yet). even after a format w/out using hibernation, i would still lose data after scanning when i put my stuff back on..so i do sector scans, hd is fine, EVEN went as far as d/l'ing software from western digi to test it, came up fine and flawless, no bad sectors. i dont lose files until every scan. I restart, scan, more files come up EVERY time, even some of the same ones are once again invalid links or rarely cross-linked.. this has to be some sort of a software driver i am thinking that is conflicting w/ xp. it's fine w/ 98. run's w/ NO probs. wtf, why doesn't xp like me? why restart all the time? giving me sometimes that non_paged_area error or randomly pfn_list_corrupt, sometimes (usually actually) irql_not_less_or equal.. so wtf.. can ANYONE help me here? this mystery is unsolved.. had pretty much the same bs w/ my old mobo. btw, i have some GREAT cooling 2 i am using a volcano themratake 7 which is optimized for 3Ghz processors. i never have heat probs.. plz help me guys.. :'( XP hates me, i give up... *looks over at his friends flawless comp w/ xp on it*

sounds like it could be a power supply issue, do you have a spare one that you can test with.

The irq not les sor equal usually means a ram misread error with the kernel, but since you've replaced and tested the parts that would most likely cause problems, a power supply is the next logical step.

You could also try downloading the hard drive testing software from the hdd's manufacturer's website and run the low level scans. the windows one sint always the best one.

I didnt know there was annother pg boy on this forum, who knew?

yeah, my PSU USED to give me crap back in the day w/ randomly TURNING my comp off.. if i'd bump the case it wouldn't turn back on after turning off. i had to tap the power supply and it would work (yeah i know, wtf?) i should have replaced it then, so i ended up frying my first processor when my friend decided to do an ollie in my house and shake the floor which sent a surge to my comp from the psu, frying my processor :'( ... i have thought b4 that it would be a power supply problem, that could be the reason it just RESTARTS w/out errors (sometimes.. otherwise that was b4 i turned off auto-restart error) ... yeah sorry, type a lot
shortened - temps are good, bios has been cleared b4, and i should try a new PSU to possibly solve the prob. i think i have a 400watt sitting around here, i am going to try it and get back, post more knowlege about this unsolved prob if u guys can, THX for the help, FOR REAL
btw, what is "PG boy" ?

i was refering to the guy who posted b4 me, in his name colum it says his location is prince george (=pg), same with me.

Right now id have to say its definetly your psu. sometimes those things can still run while being faulty. mine kept screwing up my usb controller with micro surges, nothing else was effected.

and if you're going to get a new psu, make sure its a namebrand like enermax, or antec, i think the zalman ones are good too.

I have to agree with Davis, it's a PSU problem. Get a named brand one, no generic stuff. Unstable rails on the PSU can and will cause this problem.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE ME ADVICE, I FUCKING LOVE U GUYS.. i can finally play around on my system using all my stuff and xp workx great.. it is time to get some new software and work on updating my ram to pc3200 .. what is a good ram manufacterer, also, should i get ecc or non-ecc? is ecc slower? i know it has something to do w/ error checking and it skips bsods.. i am lookin for something that is about 140$ AT most, possibly 512-1GB, and maybe dual channel ram (i think i got that right).. help me out if u can

first your board has to support ecc (Error Correcting Code) and it cost way more and is slower.

manufactures:
OCZ
Kingston
Corsair

ecc ram is slowe cause there's an onboard chip that takes an extra ram cycle to process, to make sure the data is correct. its mostly used in server pc's to ensure data reliability.

Most ppl dont need ecc ram, just get the regular stuff, ocz, corsair and kingston are all good.
