here are the actual numbers and I think you will find there is no car made anywhere that is 100% american or any other country if you really look. I'm not sure anybody in this thread cares, but wtf here goes, some figures are older then others.
in 1982 Honda built a plant in the USA and has gotten to the point where almost every HONDA you buy in America is made (assembled) in America. In Fact it makes more cars then the US can buy and exports some. (1) Domestic to Import sales (depending on how you define it) for every 7,000 domestic cars sold aproc 2,000 imports are sold. For every 7500 Domestic trucks, aproc 800 import trucks are sold. (2) The US accounts for 30% of all cars bought. It manufactures roughly 20% of all cars made (worldwide) which breaks down to this for made in the USA: GM- 4.1 Million units Ford- 3.4 Million Units Daimler -Chrysler- 1.8 Million Units Honda- 800,000 Units Toyota- 700,000 Units Nissan- 400,000 Units Ten years ago the Big Three (GM, ford, and Crysler) accounted for 74% of all cars sold in the US, Currently they account for 62%, over a 10% loss in 10+ years. They have started stablizing and are no longer loseing large chunks. US market share: GM 28.6% Ford 21.5% D/Chrysler 14.4% Toyata 10.4% American Honda 7.4% Nissan North AMerica 4.4% GM was the only American car company to operate in the Black in 2002 (above figures are from 2002). (3) Current as of 2004 figures Big 3 are at 60.2% of US sales Asian Imports 32% (4) ------There ya go, fuel for a pointless argument (if that is what it was)..
