Hello all,
I am a neewbie at some of the computer issues that I have been having lately, and I am hoping some one may be of some assistance. I recently decided to put some AVI files onto DVD for backup, and after lots of time spent trying to figure out how to convert AVI files to DVD files, i found a couple of programs that can do this for me such as AVI2DVD and ULEAD DVD Movie Factory. Well I set everything up to convert and create a dvd or dvd file and every single time after about 2-3 minutes my computer locks up and freezes completely. Now I don't know how to fix a problem like this, I am not sure if it is something wrong with the whole PC or if it is something like a virus. Also sometimes when I start to burn a regular dvd from another dvd the same thing will accure about 5 minutres into the process. If anyone knows any way to fix this or has any advice on what could be te cause of this problem please let me know, I am willing to pay someone for the proper advice and/or way to fix this issue. Thank you all for reading and all help is appreciated. |

Need more info.
What burner? What program to burn? Have you done a virus scan? Defragged lately? How much memory? What processor? Updated all drivers for vid card, mobo, etc? Upgraded firmware for the Burner? Oh and for the record Flunk's suggestion was a good one. |

If you can't remember the last time you defragged, its been WAY to long.
How much free space do you have on the hard drive? Oh and theres NO way you have 149 GB of memory, you must be thinking hard drive. Memory will be in MB's on an Emachine. Most likely 128 or 256. |

Sounds like an overheating issue. The conversion process is very taxing on the processor. Try removing the side off the computer case and blowing a regular house fan into it. Then try again. If it works then it's overheating
