System suggestions for Premiere work

I have a very specific system to build, for Adobe Premiere and video editing/sound compositing work. I am currently using an ASUS A7V333-a at 266 FSB with an Athlon 2Ghz Thunderbird, 1.5MB PC2700 SDRAM, Geforce400, 800GB of ATA100 HDs, Creative Audigy2, Sony DVD burner. It works fine and is stable but I want more speed and better video support. I play NO games on this system and do no over-the-top 3D work - its all sound and 2D video editing to produce videos.

But I want it faster, and I am adding better components: a Matrox Parhelia board for two screens and a TV monitor, an Audigy2 Platinum for true 24/96 sampling support, an AMD 2800+ (Barton) for faster renders (although I may also add a Matrox RX100 for dedicated renders later on). I'm also switching from W2k to XP Pro because Premiere 6.5 works better with it.
Since I'm doing all this I decided that instead of just hardware swapping from my present case I will build a new system. I don't need onboard audio or video, don't need RAID (although Serial ATA would be nice for later expansion), I do need both 1394 and USB 2 support, onboard LAN, and I want a true 333 FSB for CAS 2 PC2700 DDR.
I would appreciate all input on the topic. I like to tune the system to optimal "stock" performance for the CPU but not overclock. This is my fourth personally built system, all have been ASUS boards and I have a love/hate relationship with them, so I am open to other mobos.
Thanks in advance for your input.

oops, that's 1.5GB of memory, not 1.5MB!

For optimal stock performance I'd go with a Soltek SL-75FRN2 nForce2 motherboard. It comes with onboard audio but you can just disable it and use the audigy.

what the hell is a geforce400? i want one of those! :D

and a 2ghz tbird? uhhh no, the highest they came out is 1.4ghz :wha?: :shake:

Yeah, he probably doesn't have an 800GB hard drive either, but whatever, doesn't really have any berring on his question.

he might, it says, "800 GB of ATA-100 HDs" unless the 's' was a mistake too...

Gee whiz, you guys reply fast!
HDs:
2 x Maxtor 200 GB
2 x WD 175GB
2 x IBM 80GB
so the 800Gb was a roundoff. The A7V333 has Promise 2 extra (RAID) IDE ports but I use a Lumberjack BIOS with a Promise driver that runs them natural, not in RAID.

And yes, I messed up the vid card name: GForce 4 MX 460
sorry,

And yes, the Athlon is not 2Ghz its the 2000+.
In the future I'll check my specs and be more exact.

Winged Poop 05-21-2003 08:12 PM

well i guess that clears everything up lol ;)

oh and if its a 2000+ its not a tbird.
