Yep. I'm here.

PS4? No thanks. PC and Steam for me. Steam Piston looks cool. Even OUYA is more interesting than another playstation or xbox.

Oh well. :-p

How about 4k, anyone looking to that in the next couple years?

Ps3 was what made me finally buy a hdtv, changed my world. Cant wait to step up if they ever creat content.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

If the PS4 does display 4K, games would be upscaled anyway. Just like they are now, with games upscaled from like 640x480 to 1080p.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

No doubt ll, im thinking 4k movies. Though i wouldnt be surprised to see games above 1080 but below 4k

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

With the rumored specs to be around the level of a Radeon 7770, I would be surprised if there were games higher than 1080p

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

really, no ones excited for a 4k monitor? I'd love to get these three or four monitors off my desk and have a 4k in the 30+" range.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

That does sound like a good reason to get a 4k. I guess I don't excite easily over computer hardware anymore. It's sad, really. :(

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

I'm sure you all saw the news. Pretty skimpy on specs I thought, heavy on the social thing. No 4k talk, no ports, no picture even. Almost a non-announcement to force MS to do somethign next.

I can't believe it's been nearly two months and they still haven't shown the console yet..

Maybe saving it for E3?

Some of the features look cool, but I'm pretty confident this is dead in the water.

It's tough to call right now... gaming is certainly changing. I am skeptical of anything related to 'cloud gaming'. Won't know until Microsoft announces the XBOX. If the 'always online' rumors are true (where if your internet goes down for more than 3 minutes, the game quits) then it is definitely dead in the water.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

Oh, xbox I think will do ok regardless. I was just talking about the new playstation.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

so xbox is $500 bundled with Kinect, PS4 is $400 and not bundled with a Camera. Xbox taking a ton of heat for used game DRM tactics, PS4 promising not to have DRM.

you can now get a 4k sony tv for 5k (55")-7k(65"). I'm holding out for 70-80 that I can afford.

BTW Sony isn't promising no DRM, they are promising they aren't doing it for the publishers :)

True, and to an extent the same is true for the Xbox. Sony is doing a way better job of communicating and marketing than MS right now.

Wow, what a difference 2 months can make. 100% reversal on my previous statements in this thread, lol.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

and microsoft has now backtracked and removed all "online" requirements as well as promising all "disc based games" will be resellable for the console's life.

Here's my take on all this. I can go on ebay and buy an atari to relive my childhood days. As soon as companies move everything to this "cloud based" models, that will never be possibility for future generations, and I think that will suck for them.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

I really don't trust either company to be quite honest, but the lesser of the two evils appears to be Sony at the moment - Microsoft really dropped the ball recently and Sony have picked it up.
Despite being primarily a PC Gamer, I'm interested to see if the Playstation 4 can get the larger market share and lead this time around.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

So the interesting thing to me concerning the hardware is that sony combined the CPU/GPU into a single Die, and they share access to highspeed memory. Supposedly breaking down all the walls between CPU and GPU architecture increases the communication and vastly improves the performance possibly. Makes sense at least in theory.

Since AMD and Intel both own GPU's units now, could the be the next wave of PC architecture??? Highend GPU's builtin to CPU, and maybe high end memory too? God knows they just can't keep throwing more slow cores on the same chip.

Re: PS4 Playstation 4 - it's time

It may be the 'way of the future', but for now it's actually smarter to use a side loaded cache like the Xbox One does (and Intel does it with their high end iGPU platforms)

RAM will eventually get faster and cheaper, so it may be doable. But Sony is essentially taking a really expensive route to future-proof their system.

It was a huge gamble too - it wasn't until really late that they decided they could afford to use 8GB of memory. Originally the system was designed to have 4GB (which is why the OS is so small)
