very nice! how are you liking it? Since you know technology, and how it is supposed to work, how does that TV perform?

Was it a big price jump to get an HD reciever and signal?

i've only watched a few hours of tv but totally impressed so far. i've never had PIP before and this also has PBP(split screen, picture beside picture). the receiver was $500,and thats the cheap one! the better receiver is about $750, but its a PVR(hard drive, tivo functions). the signal upgrade was minor, less than $10.

save your money on the standalone HDDVD player and either buy the 360+player or the PS3 with builtin bluray for the same price. THey are the same price as the player, but they come with a game machine.

costco has a great warranty. here's your next purchase, a good inexpensive dvd upscaler:

i just watched the star wars 3 dvd and i bet you can't tell the difference between it and hd-dvd. maybe if they were side-by-side you might but pfft. it's too soon to begin replacing your dvd collection.

Stab a knife in my heart c-deck. It would hurt less.

C-deck, you know I think you're cool, but I feel the need to knock you in the back of the head here.

A 640x480 image "upscaled" to 1080x1920 will NOT look as good as 1080x1920 source. No amount of math will create that mount of detail. This of course requires a television of a resolution and quality that show off the difference. If you are showing moth images on a low res LCD or something, they will probably look equal to a point.

It's like MP3's all sound good on a cheap boombox, but play it through your big expensive speakers and you can pick out the compresion artifacts because hifi speakers are much more accurate.

and FWIW, there is no HD starwars available to compare it to, unless you live on the ranch with george.

To put it in perspective, would the Wii upscaled looked as good as the 360 or PS3?

Yes and pigs can fly, the king lives and George Bush jr. is the best president the US has ever had.

have you used one dallas? some movies don't seem to upgrade well but many upscale nicely.

i have the older 971-h model and i just ordered this one this morning for my downstairs tv. btw, the canadian movie network played hd star wars 3.

if you want to upgrade your dvd collection to hd dvd's right now, knock yourself out. only a fool would and you are a fool.
