Even though it is widely known that SP2 offers a lot of cool new features and security enhancements, you might be reluctant to install it, because nobody knows what it will do for system performance.

Today we're looking at exactly what SP2 does for performance, compared directly to SP1. We used a full suite of benchmarks to test performance in office applications, content creation, web browsing, and gaming. You might be surprized at the results!

I wonder why update version is much smaller than the downloadable one.
75MB against 271MB.

The downloaded version will only download the updates you need. If you have been using SP1 and keeping it up to date, SP2 itself isn't that big.

But if you are updating from a fresh install of Windows, before SP1, you will need a much bigger install.

Nice review. I find the new Security Center thing annoying in SP2 though where it's always popping up if you don't have the firewall enabled. If you're using a router you don't really need the XP firewall going and it's annoying to always have that little red icon in your system bar popping up all the time telling you that your system isn't secure.

Nice review LL, it looks like it boosts the gaming quite a bit. I was going to install it on my gf's and her friends computer when I was setting up their network but Eastlink their local cable people said they won't support it.

have they fixed the codec issues with divx and dvd codecs. i watch a lot of movies and dvds on my computer, and if it screwes up all my codecs again.. i'm probably going to wait

I haven't noticed any problems with divx and xvid videos since installing this

divx gets screwed up when you use security features on A64 systems that are enabled by SP2. You can disable those features and it works fine
