As always with gaming consoles, we all have our favourites. Whether it's Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft, everyone seems to have their own agenda for picking their favourite. Sometimes it's simply brand loyalty, sometimes it's because of a single game franchise. But what do the developers think? I contacted my friend, who is a lead programmer for a large publisher who makes games for all major consoles and PC. I asked him which is the best console from his perspective. Not necessarily the best to develop for, but what would be the best buy today? The answer may surprize you... Check it out!

its a nice article but maybe a little slanted? I think his arguement for which has the better drive built in is bad. because no matter whether blue ray succeeds or not, it still plays dvds. He left out the fact that the 360 controller is kick ass
. but he also left out that the ps3 has built in wifi. btw my 360 froze last night int he middle of my first super bowl in madden 07. I have a launch system so i better send it back.

the 360 plays dvd's as well, but if blue ray doesn't win, than you have a drive that can play games and older movies but not the newer ones.
the 360 has a drive that plays games and older movies, and you can pay the extra to get the drive that plays high def content. If blue ray wins, than the 360 could theoretically get a blueray external drive and not lose any advantage. Also, the drives die due to use. If the ps3's drive plays games, old and new movies, it will die sooner. By the 360 having the external drive for movies, it will not suffer the same death rate, and can be replaced easier. I don't really think its slanted. The xbox also has wireless built in if you don't have the core system, so its not much of an advantage for the ps3. the controllers are more subjective, as there aren't any real features that give a system an edge. The ps3 is a great system, but i don't see a reason why it will be better than the 360. Having a game dev agree is nicely re-enforcing my self belief that I'm always right. front page on digg.

Now since we all know that in order to fully understand a thing one must be that thing, it seems obvious that the state of believing in something inevitably causes us to not truly understand it. This leads to all sorts of difficulties. "I believe in love" has a better than even chance of leading to divorce, while "I believe in God" seems to end in variations on the Spanish Inquisition -CLP |

both have wireless built in but neither have a wireless network adapter which is what I was talking about. I paid 100 for that.
trust me I love my 360 and I wouldnt trade it for a ps3 any day. |

Don't take me for a x360 fanboy cause I ain't, but what I find quite strange that this guy is supposed to be a "lead programmer for a large gaming company" that is "Being a video game developer (I develop for both, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360)" never has seen the PS3 online service? And even more, chooses to comment on it to the favour for x360 live...

The only issue I have with the 360 is the fact that there are all of two or three games that would actually be worth my money, and those will be ported to PC within about six months anyways, so I'd rather just wait.

well, the hard drive is an argument for save games really. without a hdd in the core system you have to buy a seperate memory device which knocks up the price. not 200 worth, but around 60 cdn which narrows the price gap by a significant margin for 1 device.
plus if any game updates are released, what are core users going to save the patches on? are they supposed to rely on their memoy stick for everything?

Also, if you read the comments under the digg article, you get a lot of good points from both camps, but my fav is near the end, where the actual "war" is being faught.
